Richard Hughes, Sr.
Born: 1726-1727, Archerstown, Tipperary Co., Ireland
Died: 1831-1832,Rockingham, VA
Spouse: Second wife, Elizabeth Scarlet
Marriage: 1782, I think in Harrisburg, PA
Comments: Richard emigrated from Ireland about 1760 and lived in the
vacinity of Harrisburg, PA at the time of the American Revolution. He
fought in the Penna. Line. He was a private, 2nd PA Battalion, organized in
Daupin Co., Capt John Brisbane and Colonel Arthur St. Clair. He was at
Valley Forge, and was wounded at Brandywine. He served throughout the war.
He had owned an estate near Harrisburg, PA, but it was thought that he lost
that due to nonoccupancy (Perhaps during the Revolution?). He returned to PA
and married his second wife, Elizabeth, and had four sons.
