I am looking for any information on Thomas Godfrey Hughes, born March 1793 in the USA died Dec 23, 1865 Richmond Township, Lennox & Addington County, Upper Canada (Ontario). I believe he was probably born in the north eastern states, possibly New York. I have no information on Thomas before his marriage to Elizabeth Shorts in October 1818 in Richmond. Family lore says that 3 Hughes brother sailed from Wales to the USA. Thomas joined the army during the war of 1812, deserted and swam the St. Lawrence river close to Brockville. He later migrated westward to the Napanee area, where many United Empire Loyalist were settled. There he married and raised a family. On Cencus records I have his birth place as US, which contradicts some of the family lore. Thomas and Elizabeth had 5 children (that I have been able to find) 2 daughters Jerusha & Hannah and 3 sons Augustus, Andrew & John. I am looking for information primarily on Thomas' parents and siblings. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
